PRESS: TeleSport files 3 bln rbl suit vs Yandex for football videos

MOSCOW, Aug 13 (PRIME) -- TeleSport Group, the owner of exclusive rights to broadcast the Coppa Italia football matches, has filed a 3 billion ruble lawsuit against Internet company Yandex, accusing it of piracy, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday.

The Moscow City Court will hear on August 21 TeleSport’s lawsuit saying that Yandex infringed the plaintiff’s rights for highlights from football matches of the Coppa Italia, an Italian football annual cup competition, from the seasons of 2018–2019, 2019–2020, and 2020–2021.

The lawsuit contains 590 links to Yandex’s search results. According to the maximum possible compensation of 5 million rubles per each link, the plaintiff claims 2.95 billion rubles. The complaints also relate to the content TeleSport uploads in social networks.

TeleSport said that Yandex “illegally takes an expensive media product from a third party to capitalize its own business.”
